The Huminaux

The Huminaux are a species i've created. It's the species almost every single one of my OCs are. Here you can read more about them!

History

The Huminaux are supernatural creatures that have been around for billions of years, and are ancestors of all animals from earth and humans.
They originated from earth but due to upcoming disasters most had fled to the new planet, in a neighbouring galaxy, they now call home. The ones who had stayed and survived went and became the ancestors of the current animals and humans. Every now and then some came back or moved to Titan, that's how both Huminaux and animals evolved to look very similar.
Around 6 to 7 thousand years ago a larger group of varying Huminaux decided to move back to Earth. They mostly stayed hidden from humans since they mainly resembled animals more than humans. The humans who had accidentally seen one thought they were godly creatures and due to this, some religions were founded. Most of these do not exist any longer since many Huminaux now live amongst humans but some still want to think of them as something higher.
Because of these Huminaux, humans have been inspired to create legends, stories or myths (about dragons, nagas or harpies).
Originally the Huminaux were a very peaceful species who lived along side nature and each other. In more recent years, in the time frame the Huminaux started moving back and forth from earth, a lot of the their mindset have changed. Influenced by human nature, they became more and more hostile towards each other, especially against the other subspecies. Some of these conflicts resulted in wars to large degrees between the two, many have lost their lives or carry deep scars to this day.Their most recent battle was between 5000 years ago which, considering the Huminaux' life expectancy, is not too long ago.
Even today some still share a very close minded mindset and some are still very affected by the wars but the vast majority have learned from these mistakes.

General Informations

The Huminaux are in some form immortal. They usually won't die of old age because their cells will regenerate forever. They are immune to most diseases and viruses and can fight off almost every disease. For their long life expectancies they mature fast, they're considered adults at age 20. After they've reached adulthood they won't loose the amount of cells but they can look older.
Since they're able to live a very, very long life they mostly start a family when they're around ten-thousand years or older and maybe have one or two children. Relationships can start when they're young and usually they will stay with their partner, or partners, until they die. This applies to romantic, platonic or sexual relationships. That's why healthy bonds are very important!
Relationships outside of their own species are rare, the only times a Huminaux gets into an interspecies relationship is if the other is in the same age range and is also in some form immortal or they have a very long life span. A Huminaux will almost never fall in love with a human since their age difference most of the time is way too large for them. Procreating with other species is also not possible, they are incompatible with humans or the Scistraeons for example. Something that the Huminaux can do is adopt human children who are in need of a home, especially younger Huminaux would do it since they won't be having their own children any times soon.
Raising children is something they take very seriously, parents will get 20 to 40 years off, per child, to focus entirely on raising their kids.
The Huminaux have their own language but they mostly grow up trilingual. They speak their own language, English and sometimes another one from earth. Each Huminaux has an animal and an ability they inherit from one of their parents. Both could be from one parent or a mix of the two.
Some abilities are only found in either Huminuit or Huminour and cannot be inherited by the other.
The ability reaches from more simpler ones like water, fire, earth and wind to time and space, though the distribution is even so there aren't "rarer ones" so to speak.
No Huminaux is born with being a master of their ability and the type of ability doesn't determine their strength, if they don't train they aren't really strong just by using it, if they train regularly they can fight very well.
Like humans, the Huminaux can be male, female or nonbinary. Transgender and Intersex Huminaux aren't rare but they would never identify with xenopronouns or -genders. Neopronouns are only used for languages without a neutral pronoun, like dey/deren for german for example. Most Huminaux are Bisexual and Polyamorous.Sexualities are also the same as ours:
- straight: someone exclusively attracted to their opposite gender
- gay: males exclusively attracted to other males
- lesbian: females exclusively attracted to other females
- bisexual: anyone attracted to two or more genders, with preference or not
- feminamoric: nb exclusively attracted to females
- viramoric: nb exclusively attracted to males
- asexual: someone who experiences little to no sexual attraction, but also covers the whole spectrum
- aromantic: someone who experiences little to no romantic attraction, but also covers the whole spectrum
- polyamorous: someone in a romantic/sexual relationship with more than one partner at the same time, with consent of all partners involved
- monogamous: someone in a romantic/sexual relationship with one partner
If you create a Huminaux please only label them after these descriptions and do not use anything else!

Appearances

The way the Huminaux look depends on when they were born. The elder, which are millions of years old look like animal like beasts, the younger on the other hand look more humanoid with mostly no prominent animal traits left.
This does depend on their family tree though, some had more frequent offspring so they evolved into more humanoid looking faster than others, so some who were born in recent years could still have a lot more animal characteristics than my main OCs.
Every Huminaux has more pronounced canines, even the ones who's animal would not posses those types of teeth but for some they will be even more pronounced like the ones who's animal is a snake.
Younger Huminaux do have more than one form they can take on, their humanoid and beast form.
This beast form is different to every individual and even tho their animal is inherited by one of their parents it can look entirely different from them, some may have additional features their parent don't or even loose some.
A very humanoid Huminaux' skin color has the same range as ours but they actually can have actually white or black skin. Colors like bright pink doesn't exist tho, though their skin can have a light tint like Erika's slightly greenish skin.
Markings like stripes or spots depend on the animal! Feathers and scales can appear all over the body and those can be any color.
The Huminaux are split into two categories, the Huminuit, aka children of the moons/night and the Huminour, aka children of the suns/day.
If the Huminaux looks more like an animal, the difference will not be obvious, for humanoid ones the only telling sign, visually, are their ears. The ones of Huminour are more rounded and shorter unlike Huminuit's ears which are pointy and long.
At birth their ears are very short but will slowly grow in length over time until they reach their actual size when they're around 40 years of age, after that there's no more growth. The size depends on the individual and have no relations to other's, the length also kind of depends on how tall they are, but the ears of the Huminour are usually very short and small in comparison.
The more important difference between the subspecies are the way their cells behave.
A Huminour's skin is very tough and thick, they won't cut themselves on accident and more deeper cuts and bruises are very rare. They can withstand a good hit with ease but if there are any major damages done to them they can easily die because the cells take too long to regenerate that thick and sturdy skin. Most of the time they bleed out because their cells can't close the wound fast enough. This also applies to their inner organs.
The Huminuit on the other hand have more normal and thinner skin. Cuts and bruises are very frequent and sometimes deeper. Their cells can multiply very fast so their wounds will heal very quick. Most of them will be gone in 20 minutes to an hour. They are less likely to die from more fatal attacks since they can regenerate every tissue within a few hours. They could survive more fatal wounds to their heads but are more susceptible to loose function of originally lost tissues.

Titan C823

Titan C823 is an earth like planet but bigger in size, it is located in the Milky Way and possesses two moons, Atlas and Kore. The elders are the reason the planet is alive and thriving, a lot of them lay dormant and look after the planet and because of them things like floating islands with flowing water are able to exist on the planet.
Some Huminaux actually live underwater or on these floating islands but most live in or near cities on the bigger islands and continents.
Besides the Huminaux, Titan has additional fauna and animal species only native to this planet. Most of these species are prey to the Huminaux, tho more and more Huminaux are vegan, vegetarian or just cut back on meat.
The first map shows Titan's continents Saturo, Nespayria, Adrion, Theta and Ethax.
The second shows the many sky islands.

Flag

The flag of the Huminaux was created after the last war, it represents the unity and peace between the Huminuit and Huminour by combining their symbols together. The white represents the day, stars and light and black the night, moons and darkness. The flag is made out of certain dyes that both Huminuit and Huminour make together.
The fabric is usually provided by elder craftsmen, the black dye is made by Huminuit with the shadow ability (the one Eddie has), produced in certain way it stains almost everything and never washes out besides with the white dye/bleach. It's made by a rare flower a select few Huminour know how to grow, take care of and know the process of making into the actual dye. It is carefully applied by hand on the areas they want the design to show. Mistakes can be fixed but it's a tedious process to get the excess out before they're able to dye it black again. This is the only way to actually remove the black out of fabrics, the flower's bleach is never used for common purposes since it's very valuable and important.
The flag is used in their passport to show if they actually live on Titan or not. Huminaux that live on Earth will have a normal passport like we do but they are still able to order a flag for themselves to hang up somewhere.

Traditions

The Huminaux don't have a lot of traditions besides their flag making or weddings, though the wedding one is not a forced tradition and is entirely optional. In a traditional or more traditional leaning wedding, certain markings are drawn on the person getting married. These are very individual and are usually drawn on by family members. Clothing is also important in these settings, these consist of a top and pants, which are dyed similarly to the way the flags are. The top is a large, thin, buttonless and white dyed piece which is open at the front. The pants are black, around knee length and are stretchy around the waist.
The person getting married will get their body measured to get perfectly fitting clothes, these are "rental" and will be given back for cleaning as to not waste those precious materials.
The markings would be applied the night before so that they're able to dry properly, the paint would last a few days to a week, similar to henna. The paint that's used for it comes from a similar flower like the one that's used to make the bleach for the flags and fabrics, but the flower doesn't require as much care and knowledge as the other one as it's not as dangerous. Many Huminaux have weddings similar to the ones on earth but some still implement markings.

Traditional Clothes

Holidays

The Huminaux only have one national holiday, the day the war officially ended all those years ago, it is celebrated on the 6th of September. Soon after that, the Huminaux flag was created as a sign of peace and unity. The elder Huminaux will gather with younger Huminaux every 100 years and celebrate together in some of the biggest cities on the planet. In smaller communities they would throw a little festival as well if they live a bit further away and cannot travel to the larger cities in time.

Language

The Huminaux language is called Naux.
Example on how to use it: "They have been learning Naux and already know a few words".
The way their language is written and read is from right to left, and since it's like that, they naturally use their left hand to write but almost all of them are able to write with both hands which gives them an advantage with writing in English or German. There are some Huminaux which are only left or right handed though. Humans are able to learn the language just like any other. Each letter of the roman alphabet corresponds to one of the symbols, punctuation marks and numbers are used as well. There are certain symbols for the Huminuit and Huminour and some celestal bodies as well, like Atlas and Kore. These symbols are usually used instead of spelling the words out in their language. In order, here are the Symbols for Huminuit, Huminour, Atlas and Kore.

Creating a Huminaux OC

If you've read the section about the Huminaux, you'd know that some of the most important things about the look of a Huminaux would be their animal, age, ability and what subspecies they are. Most informations about the Huminaux are in the main sections so i'd suggest you to read some parts again for clarification.
But let's get into more detail shall we?

What animal are they?

Since animals play a giant role in the way a Huminaux looks and acts, let's start with them. The Huminaux can be any type of animal (mammals, reptiles, birds, invertebrates and amphibians). The animal is inherited by one of their parents but is individual in looks to them, they can have small changes like additional limbs, horns, tails or wings. They don't have to be 100% like the animal you want them to be but it should still be recognisable what they should represent. Their skincolor is usually a natural color, like ours, but they can have certain hue to them based on their animal, but there won't be a neon green humanoid Huminaux.
For reference you can take Ed's bird form. His animal is a raven but he has an additional set of legs and wings, a long tail and different talons but you can still tell it's a raven creature by certain features unique to the actual animal!
Their animal should also play a certain role in how they act!
You can choose an animal that you'd think fits their aesthetic and personality, so you can either start from scratch and create a completely new OC where you build upon the animals typical behaviour, strengths, weaknesses and character or work with one of your own and look for a suited animal for them! Maybe you already know of an animal that you associate with your already existing character! :D
Their actual animal form can be based on our myths and legends, remember, the humans in their universe based these off of the Huminaux they saw! Just incorporate their animal into the design you're basing it off of. Take a dragon for example, you can choose from many different reptiles like a bearded dragon or a snake, think of different iterations like eastern and western dragons for example. The beast form can have (additional) wings, more horns etc. Literally go wild with it!

What's their ability?

There aren't too many rules on what their ability can be, be creative and think of something you'd like and think that's interesting! Their ability can range from an elemental ability, like water, to something more specific, like light.
How does it work? Well, that's entirely up to you! Think about how often they would use or need it, how does it manifest itself and how much do they train to keep up their strength. Keep in mind that the power of the ability doesn't just come by having it, no, the Huminaux has to train to become stronger and to keep it up. There also aren't any "rare" ones, it's usually very evenly distributed.
Though, some abilities are only found in either Huminuit or Huminour and cannot be inherited by the other. For example, a Huminour cannot inherit the shadow ability and a Huminuit cannot inherit the light ability.

Are they Huminuit or Huminour?

I detailed the differences between the subspecies in the main information text so this is mainly for their overall design! Would you like your character to have short and round ears or longer and pointier ones? This is entirely up to your preference!
Something not to forget is, that the Huminaux generally have more pronounced canines! Some may have slightly different teeth depending on their animal.

Though, all of this is only for the people who want to go more in depth with their Huminaux OC, if you want to create a character, just for fun please go for it! :D
I'm personally just interested in detailed characters and stories but you can have all the fun you want!
If you really want to make a detailed OC i'd again suggest you to go back to the overall informations because i've written it in greater detail and it would probably help you more!
If you still need help please don't be afraid to ask!
Please don't forget to tag me and add the hashtag #RDs_Huminaux if you decide to create one so i can see it. :D
